Elevated Road to Link Vasant Kunj with Gurugram-Faridabad Road

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is developing an elevated corridor linking Nelson Mandela Marg in Vasant Kunj to the Gurugram-Faridabad Road, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) overseeing the project.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being prepared. The elevated corridor, expected to span 25 to 30 km, will include a combination of underpasses and tunnels and is aimed at easing access to the airport while reducing congestion on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway (NH-8).

Previously, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) had proposed an elevated road between INA and the Mahipalpur bypass, but the plan was not executed. The central and Delhi governments have now entrusted NHAI with executing the new version of the project.

Once completed, the corridor will offer smoother airport access for commuters from East and South Delhi via the Barapullah flyover. Additionally, NHAI plans to construct a tunnel connecting the Shiv Murti Interchange with Nelson Mandela Marg.

According to an NHAI official quoted by the Times of India, the final alignment will be decided upon completion of the DPR, after which the tendering process will begin. Another project official noted that the elevated corridor will offer a direct route to the airport and Gurugram, helping to decongest Ring Road and the busy NH-8 stretch between Dhaula Kuan and Gurugram.
