Army Boosts Cybersecurity After Site Hacking Attempts

In light of recent hacking attempts on Indian Army-affiliated websites, including Army Public Schools and defence-linked institutions, the Indian Army is ramping up its cybersecurity infrastructure to prevent further intrusions, sources confirmed on Monday.

Recent cyberattacks have targeted websites connected to the Army Welfare Education Society, with at least four Army Public Schools—such as APS Nagrota and APS Sunjuwan—impacted. Both sites were non-functional as of Monday evening. The Army College of Nursing website, based in Jalandhar Cantonment, was hacked and defaced on April 25 with disturbing visuals and a banner that read “YOU ARE HACKED !!! TEAM INSANE PK,” reportedly referencing the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

Although some reports claimed the website of Delhi-based Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses was compromised, senior officials denied any such breach.

Cybersecurity teams are now working on bolstering digital defences. Measures include enhanced surveillance, deployment of expert teams, and building resilience across Army-affiliated platforms. The Army aims to ensure preparedness against evolving cyber threats, with intelligence inputs suggesting possible cross-border involvement in the attacks.

In a related incident, the Rajasthan education department's website was hacked recently with messages mocking India's armed forces and referencing the 2019 capture of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

The Indian Army has assured that necessary actions are underway to secure its digital ecosystem and mitigate future risks.
