Karnataka Seeks Centre’s Support for Hebbal–KIA Flyover

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has sought Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s support to expedite infrastructure projects in Bengaluru, particularly the proposed dedicated flyover from Hebbal Junction to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

The thirty-five kilometre corridor is critical for North Bengaluru’s growing traffic and is expected to ease congestion caused by disconnected flyovers, traffic signals, and pedestrian crossings. Shivakumar noted that passenger volumes at KIA have surged, and uninterrupted access is essential for travellers, cargo transport, and employees commuting to nearby tech and industrial zones.

He also flagged delays in the seven kilometre stretch of National Highway two hundred nine between Ravishankar Ashram and Kaggalipura Toll. Though land acquisition is complete, work has stalled due to objections from the National Green Tribunal, creating a traffic bottleneck in a rapidly developing region.

Shivakumar further requested the widening of NH-209 from Bengaluru to Kanakapura into a six-lane road with service lanes.

Additionally, he urged the Centre to release pending compensation to farmers affected by the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) project, a key highway initiative intended to decongest Bengaluru and improve regional connectivity.
