ZF Wind Power Opens 13.2 MW Test Rig in Coimbatore
ZF Wind Power has inaugurated India's largest 13.2 MW test rig at its facility in Coimbatore, significantly enhancing its capacity to validate and test gearboxes and powertrains under real-world conditions. The advanced test rig supports dynamic testing, including real-time simulation of field scenarios and torque reversal cycles, with capabilities extending up to 20 meganewton metres (MNm).
The launch comes at a pivotal moment for the global wind energy sector, which faces rising demand for resilient and efficient powertrain systems. ZF Wind Power’s investment enables comprehensive testing and validation, positioning the company as a crucial partner in the transition to sustainable energy.
Felix Henseler, CEO of ZF Wind Power, highlighted the strategic importance of the test rig, stating, “This is a key component of our commitment to India’s wind energy goals. From Co-Design to Co-Service, we are building complete solutions to meet global and local market needs.” He also announced plans to add a cold chamber test facility, further expanding capabilities at the Coimbatore plant.
So far, ZF Wind Power India has delivered nearly 60 gigawatts (GW) of gearbox capacity from its Coimbatore facility, serving both domestic and international markets. The new test rig enhances validation at higher torque and speed, streamlining the certification process and reducing lead times for next-generation products.
The Coimbatore plant, already equipped with world-class manufacturing and assembly infrastructure, now offers full-cycle development for advanced gearboxes. With increasing torque requirements in the wind energy industry, this investment ensures ZF Wind Power can continue to deliver reliable, high-performance systems backed by rigorous validation.
