UP to Get 62 New Road Projects Including Flyovers and Bypasses

In a significant move to ease traffic congestion across Uttar Pradesh, the state government has approved an extensive plan comprising 62 ring roads, flyovers, and bypasses in various districts. The initiative was formulated following a departmental review meeting held two weeks earlier, during which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also oversees the Public Works Department (PWD), had instructed officials to take swift action.

Acting on the Chief Minister’s directives, the PWD incorporated these 62 infrastructure projects into its action plan, with a projected cost of Rs 61.24 billion. The department plans to prioritise urban centres—particularly municipalities and municipal councils with populations exceeding one lakh—for the development of bypasses and flyovers.

However, towns and cities that are already traversed by National Highways will not be included in the initiative, as responsibility for infrastructure in those areas lies with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The objective of the plan is to reduce the movement of heavy vehicles through city centres by redirecting them via newly constructed ring roads and bypasses, while simultaneously easing urban traffic through the construction of well-placed flyovers.
