West Bengal to Set Up 3 New IT Parks in North Bengal
2025-06-24

The West Bengal Government has announced plans to establish three new IT parks in north Bengal, as part of its broader strategy to enhance the State’s information technology infrastructure. The move comes in response to the growing demand for space in existing facilities, all of which are currently operating at near-full capacity.
At present, West Bengal has 22 IT parks, with occupancy levels ranging between 80 per cent and 100 per cent. In Siliguri alone, all three operational IT parks are running at full capacity, prompting the State to expand its presence in the region.
“We are now focusing on development of IT infrastructure in north Bengal in a big way,” said Babul Supriyo, Minister for Information Technology and Electronics, West Bengal. “There are three IT parks in Siliguri, and all of them are functional with 100 per cent occupancy. It has encouraged us to set up three more IT parks in north Bengal.”
The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration has already begun work on a new IT park in Kurseong, while land has been identified around Deolo Hill in Kalimpong for another project. Construction is expected to commence shortly. A third facility is planned for Jalpaiguri.
Additionally, a new IT park is in the planning stages for Chinsurah in South Bengal.
Speaking at the 16th edition of the Business IT Conclave, organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with World Trade Center NDITA, Anoop Kumar Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of IT and Electronics, highlighted the State’s holistic approach. “Apart from developing physical infrastructure, we are establishing Centres of Excellence that are open, accessible, and flexible. Labour issues have been resolved through the Department of IT&E,” he said.
Agrawal also noted the availability of competitively priced land at the hardware park in Sonarpur and progress at Bengal Silicon Valley, where several companies have commenced construction. “The IT Department is coordinating closely with these firms, which is expected to boost employment and the economy,” he added.
Saket Mohta, Vice Chairman of World Trade Center NDITA and Managing Director of Merlin Group, also spoke at the event. He shared the vision for developing the first World Trade Center in eastern India and highlighted WTC NDITA’s role in advancing sustainable IT and ITeS infrastructure.
