PM Modi Unveils Projects Worth Rs 20 Bn in Bihar, Odisha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a two-day visit to three states, beginning with the inauguration of multiple development projects in Bihar. His itinerary also includes Odisha, where he will launch infrastructure initiatives and lead the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Visakhapatnam.

In Siwan, Bihar, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line, valued at over Rs 4 billion, and flagged off a new passenger service along the route. He also launched the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express, aimed at improving rail connectivity across northern Bihar.

Highlighting India’s export capabilities under the “Make in India, Make for the World” programme, PM Modi flagged off the first export-bound locomotive built at the Marhowra plant, which is being shipped to Guinea. Under the Namami Gange mission, he inaugurated six sewage treatment plants valued at over Rs 18 billion.

Additional launches included drinking water supply projects, electricity infrastructure, and housing schemes. He released the first instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) to over 53,600 beneficiaries and marked the symbolic ‘Grih Pravesh’ of 6,600 newly built homes.

The Bihar leg of the visit comes ahead of the state’s Assembly elections, where the BJP-JD(U) alliance faces opposition from the INDIA bloc led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Later in the day, Modi is scheduled to visit Odisha, where he will inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 186 billion across sectors including drinking water, irrigation, agriculture, health, roads, and railways. A key highlight will be the launch of railway services to Boudh, connecting the district to the national rail network for the first time. He will also flag off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) scheme to boost green mobility in urban areas.

The Prime Minister will release the Odisha Vision Document, which aligns with two upcoming milestones—Odisha’s 100th anniversary as India’s first linguistic state in 2036, and India’s centenary of independence in 2047. He will also honour women achievers from Odisha.

On 21 June, PM Modi will lead the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations from the beachfront in Visakhapatnam. Over 500,000 people are expected to participate in the Common Yoga Protocol session. Simultaneously, more than 3.5 lakh events will take place across India. The theme this year, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” underscores the connection between human and planetary well-being, reflecting the Indian ethos of Sarve Santu Niramaya (May all be free from disease).

Since the UN adopted India’s proposal in 2015, PM Modi has led Yoga Day celebrations from cities including Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Mysuru, New York, and Srinagar.
