CPWD to Train 35,000 Workers in Modern Construction Skills

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Shri Manohar Lal, distributed skill certificates and ID cards to 40 workers trained in MIVAN Shuttering Systems under CPWD’s Labour Skill Training Programme at GPRA, Kasturba Nagar, New Delhi. The training, part of the Skill India Mission, was conducted onsite at the GPRA project.

CPWD plans to upskill approximately 35,000 workers over the current and next financial year, up from 10,000 this year. It has also mandated that 20% of workers in projects above ₹10,000 crore be certified or trained on-site. The training, in partnership with NAREDCO, certifies workers as Assistant Shuttering Carpenters. A previous phase trained 40 workers as Assistant Masons.

The GPRA Redevelopment Project, which includes 2000+ flats and modern amenities, is being built using aluminium shuttering and self-compacting concrete. The project aims for a GRIHA 4-Star Rating through sustainable practices including the use of fly ash, solar panels, low-VOC paints, and 5-star rated equipment. It also includes green areas, cycle tracks, gyms, and social infrastructure.

The initiative reflects the Government’s emphasis on building a skilled, innovative, and sustainable construction workforce.
