The future lies in integrated, application-driven solutions

Jaideep Shekhar, Managing Director, Terex India.

What is the current demand for crushing and screening equipment in India’s construction and mining sectors?

India’s infrastructure and mining sectors are witnessing sustained growth, driven by government initiatives like Bharatmala, PM Gati Shakti, and continued urbanisation. This has created a robust demand for crushing and screening equipment across segments—particularly road construction, railways, commercial development, and aggregate mining. At Terex India, we are seeing increased traction not just for standalone machines, but for complete mobile, modular, and application-tailored process solutions that cater to higher throughput and tighter project timelines.

How do crushers and screens contribute to aggregate production for infrastructure projects?

Crushing and screening equipment form the backbone of aggregate processing. Terex’s cone, jaw, and impact crushers—along with grizzly feeders and scalping screens—enable efficient size reduction, product shaping, and gradation control. These machines are engineered to deliver optimal output for infrastructure materials like road aggregates, ballast, and M-sand. Our mobile and skid-mounted plants allow faster setup and relocation, enabling contractors to stay agile and productive on time-sensitive sites.

What are the key technological advancements in crushing and screening equipment?

Our focus is on integrating smart engineering into every machine to meet the evolving demands of the industry. Recent advancements include improved chamber geometries that enhance inter-particle crushing and deliver consistent product shape, along with hydraulic systems engineered for minimal energy loss and responsive performance. We’ve introduced digital monitoring tools that enable real-time diagnostics and performance analytics, helping operators make data-driven decisions. To provide operational flexibility and reduce fuel consumption, our machines offer multiple drive options—including electric, hybrid, and dual power systems. The newly launched MAGNA series features large-capacity, track-mounted crushers and screens capable of delivering up to 1,000 TPH throughput, with rapid deployment capabilities for high-production environments. Together, these technologies are designed to reduce wear, maximise uptime, and lower the total cost of ownership for our customers.

How are manufacturers improving the efficiency and environmental impact of these machines?

Efficiency and sustainability are core to our design philosophy. Terex mobile and modular equipment is now equipped with hybrid and electric drive systems that help reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Our machines feature dust suppression and noise reduction elements to ensure compliance with both site-specific and urban environmental regulations. The use of plug-and-play modular systems allows for quicker installation and reduced energy usage during setup. We also offer customisable automation controls that enhance process efficiency and support predictive maintenance strategies. These innovations ensure our machines remain productive while aligning with evolving environmental standards.

What are the challenges faced by crushing and screening equipment manufacturers in India?

Manufacturers in India face several ongoing challenges. Project delays and inconsistent execution timelines can affect equipment planning and deployment. The diverse nature of site conditions requires equipment that is both adaptable and rugged, capable of performing reliably in varied terrains. Supply chain disruptions, coupled with a shortage of skilled manpower, continue to pose operational hurdles. There's also a constant need to balance market price sensitivity with the demand for high-performance, technologically advanced, and environmentally compliant machines. At Terex, our India-based manufacturing and R&D capabilities enable us to respond swiftly to these challenges, offering solutions that are tailored for the local market while meeting global performance benchmarks.

What role do government infrastructure initiatives play in driving the demand for crushers and screens?

Government programmes like Bharatmala, Sagarmala, and Smart Cities Mission continue to be significant demand drivers. The push for highway expansion, metro projects, and rural connectivity fuels the need for high-quality aggregates. These initiatives, along with mining reforms and growing acceptance of recycled materials, are creating opportunities for advanced crushing and screening systems—especially those that offer mobility, modularity, and environmental compliance.

How do you see the future of the crushing and screening market in India?

The future of the crushing and screening industry lies in integrated, application-driven solutions rather than standalone machines. We expect to see increasing adoption of mobile and modular plants that can be tailored to site-specific requirements, offering flexibility and scalability across a range of projects. Digital and remote technologies will play a key role in optimising machine performance and reducing downtime. There is also a growing focus on eco-friendly power systems that support sustainable operations while maintaining high productivity. Large-capacity machines—such as those in our MAGNA range—are set to play a pivotal role in meeting the demands of mega infrastructure and mining projects. As the need for quality aggregates continues to grow alongside India’s infrastructure development, Terex remains committed to driving progress through innovation, customer-centric design, and comprehensive support.
