Tamil Nadu May Begin Land Acquisition for Hosur Airport in Three Months

A consultant appointed by the State government has submitted the OLS survey for two potential sites. The administration is expected to decide on the final location within six weeks.

Sources familiar with the matter said both identified sites—one approximately 1.5 km from the TAAL airstrip, and the other 15.5 km east of Hosur and north of Shoolagiri—are technically feasible, though each presents its own set of challenges. “The report highlights undulating terrain and several obstacles at both locations. However, with necessary measures, airport construction is viable,” a source noted.

Earlier, Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited (TAAL) had expressed interest in exploring a joint venture with the State government. Talks were held, but officials say the outcome hinges on the final site selection.

In parallel, the State government has written to the Ministry of Defence to seek approval for the creation of a separate air control zone. The response is expected within two months. Additionally, discussions with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) are anticipated shortly.

The proposed airport holds strategic value for Tamil Nadu, particularly in supporting the region’s growing automobile, electronics, and industrial sectors. With steady progress since the initial announcement a year ago, the government is now nearing a key milestone in the project's development.
