Andhra Pradesh Ties Up with TIPSA, SYSTRA to Accelerate Metro Projects

The MoUs were signed on July 26 in the presence of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr P Narayana at the APCRDA office in Vijayawada.

Under the agreements:
  • TIPSA will provide design and supervision services for the Vijayawada Metro project.
  • SYSTRA will offer technical and execution support for the Visakhapatnam Metro project.

Minister Narayana stated that these metro projects are being taken up under commitments made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, and criticised the previous administration for delays. He reaffirmed the government’s intent to expedite the long-pending projects.

He outlined the funding model for the metros—20% each from the Centre and State governments, and 60% through low-interest loans facilitated by the central government.

Project Highlights:
  • Vizag Metro Phase 1: 46.23 km; tenders already invited
  • Vijayawada Metro Phase 1: 35.04 km; tenders to be floated soon
  • Double-decker corridors planned for optimal space use: 20 km in Vizag and 4.7 km in Vijayawada

These collaborations aim to bring global expertise to the table and ensure timely, cost-effective execution of two of Andhra Pradesh’s most ambitious urban mobility initiatives.
