Two Liebherr Cranes Advance A45 Bridge Project

Two Liebherr 340 EC-B 16 flat-top cranes are delivering safe, precise, and efficient lifting operations for the construction of the new Rahmede Valley Bridge on Germany’s A45 motorway. Installed on foundation anchors, the cranes feature 75-metre jibs and hook heights of 61 and 65 metres, playing a vital role in keeping the project on schedule.

Since construction began in October 2023, the 453-metre-long viaduct has been progressing rapidly. Supplied by BKL Baukran Logistik GmbH, one of Europe’s leading crane providers, the Liebherr cranes have been integral from the foundation stage to the assembly of the bridge’s eight main piers and the concrete pouring of its deck slabs.

Precision and performance for complex construction

The EC-B series’ stability, efficient transport, and rapid assembly make it ideal for demanding infrastructure projects. With only four transport units required, the cranes can be mobilised quickly, while Liebherr’s “Load Plus” feature boosts lifting capacity by up to 20% when needed.

Supporting a critical transport link

The Rahmede Valley Bridge is a key replacement project on the A45 motorway, also known as the Sauerland Line, ensuring long-term connectivity on one of Germany’s most important north–south routes. The cranes have proven indispensable even under challenging logistical conditions, enabling precise handling of steel components and concrete elements in limited workspace environments.

The two Liebherr flat-top cranes will remain on site until their planned dismantling in autumn 2025, continuing to ensure efficiency, safety, and accuracy in this high-profile infrastructure project.
