Meghalaya CM Opens New Block Complex, Hospital Units

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the Block Integrated Development Complex at the Mairang C&RD Block Office, along with upgraded healthcare facilities at Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital, Mairang. The new facilities include a Sick New Born Care Unit (SNCU), Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Adult Intensive Care Unit (AICU) and a High Dependency Unit (HDU), reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for critical treatment.
Sangma emphasised that these initiatives reflect the state’s commitment to equitable development across all districts. He also announced new projects including a DC office in Mairang, a district convention centre, improved street lighting, the Shillong Secretariat Project in Mawdiangdiang, tourism schemes under CM Elevate, support for traditional institutions such as Hima Nongklaw, and expansion of PMAY (Awas Plus) to 2.8 million additional beneficiaries.
“With over Rs 25 billion sanctioned for administrative infrastructure, we are not only strengthening governance mechanisms but also bringing administration closer to the people,” Sangma said, highlighting the plan to upgrade all block offices across the state.
Health Minister Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh described the launch as part of a continuing vision for accessible healthcare, while MLA and State Planning Board Chairman Metbah Lyngdoh called for further road and lighting improvements. C&RD Minister Abu Taher Mondal praised the collaborative governance approach, and Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri underlined the link between integrated development, health, and youth outcomes.
Medical experts added that the new critical care units will help reduce infant and maternal mortality, cut healthcare costs, and ensure specialised care for residents of Mairang and neighbouring districts.
