CM to Inaugurate One Arm of Double-Decker Flyover at SPPU Chowk
2025-08-21
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate one arm of the double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Chowk. The newly opened stretch, connecting Aundh to Shivajinagar, is expected to ease traffic congestion along Ganeshkhind Road, one of Pune’s busiest corridors.
Built at a cost of Rs 2.77 billion, the project aims to improve traffic flow at Vidyapeeth Chowk and adjoining routes. As part of the initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation widened the stretch between Pune University and the Indian Agricultural College (RBI) to 45 metres.
According to officials, the ramps at Aundh and Shivajinagar are ready for use, while the Baner and Pashan ramps will be completed by October 2025. Construction began in August 2022 following approvals from PMC, PMRDA, and the state government.
The project also involved demolishing two older single-lane flyovers in 2020 and installing a 55-metre steel girder at University Square to facilitate smoother movement.
Meanwhile, the delayed opening of the flyover has sparked criticism from opposition parties, who allege that motorists were inconvenienced for political reasons.
