GRSE to Build Four Hybrid Multi-Purpose Vessels for German Firm

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), a defence public sector undertaking, has signed a contract with Germany’s Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei GmbH & Co. KG for four Hybrid Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs) worth USD 62.44 million (approx. Rs 520 crore).
The vessels, measuring 120 metres in length and 17 metres in width, will feature hybrid battery-assisted propulsion, enhanced fuel efficiency, and flexible cargo handling. With capacity to carry 7,500 metric tonnes, they are designed to transport bulk, general, project cargo and even multiple windmill blades on deck—serving the renewable energy logistics sector.
The contract builds on GRSE’s ongoing collaboration with Carsten Rehder, including the CORAL 7,500 DWT MPV series, which commenced construction earlier this year in Kolkata. This agreement marks another step in GRSE’s growing role in international commercial shipbuilding.
