Adani Energy Gets Zero-Waste-to-Landfill Certification
2025-09-30

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) on Wednesday announced that all its operational sites and corporate headquarters have been certified ‘Zero-Waste-to-Landfill’ (ZWL) by Intertek, a leading global quality assurance provider.
The company achieved a 100 per cent diversion rate, ensuring zero landfill waste. The ZWL certification requires at least 90 per cent of waste to be diverted from landfills through reduction, reuse, recycling, and recovery. AESL said this approach conserves resources by keeping them in use longer, reducing reliance on virgin materials, and cutting environmental impact.
This milestone is a key part of AESL’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) journey, launched in FY21 with a vision to rank among the world’s top 10 electric utility companies in ESG benchmarking. Over the past three years, the company has consistently maintained diversion rates above 99 per cent—99.87 per cent, 99.88 per cent, and 99.99 per cent—becoming India’s first transmission company to do so for three consecutive years.
AESL’s operations span 54 locations across 16 states, many in remote and difficult terrains, making the ZWL achievement more challenging. The company is the country’s largest private transmission utility, with a network of 26,696 circuit kilometres and 93,236 MVA of transformation capacity.
In distribution, AESL serves over 12 million consumers in metropolitan Mumbai and Mundra SEZ. It is also scaling its smart metering business with an order book of more than 22.8 million meters, aiming to become India’s leading smart metering integrator.
