Covestro Integrates Imagio® into Autodesk VRED 2026.1
2025-10-01
Covestro and Autodesk have announced the integration of Covestro’s Imagio® digital sample library into Autodesk VRED 2026.1. Imagio® offers tens of thousands of photorealistic digital material twins for polycarbonate materials, allowing designers to experience and experiment with these materials virtually, without requesting physical prototypes or visiting design centres.
The integration provides designers with immediate access to photorealistic representations of color, gloss, transparency, translucency, and surface texture. It covers a wide range of applications in vehicles, aircraft, and rail, enhancing design accuracy and efficiency.
“The integration of our digital sample library into Autodesk VRED is a milestone for both partners,” said Dr Tobias Rausch, Business Development Manager for Digital Sampling at Covestro. “Designers can now explore our polycarbonate materials realistically with just a few clicks, saving time, costs, and emissions associated with sample production and transport.”
By enabling drag-and-drop experimentation with photorealistic effects and surface structures, Imagio® helps reduce errors and interpretation issues that often arise when translating physical samples into final designs.
“The integration significantly expands the potential of our design portfolio,” said Marek Trawny, Director of Product Management – Automotive & Conceptual Design at Autodesk VRED. “Designers can now instantly visualise how polycarbonate materials appear in their projects, enhancing decision-making and creativity.”
Looking ahead, planned functionalities include simulations for mechanical properties, rheology, and weathering, allowing designers to predict material behavior and appearance changes over time.
Imagio® is available in Autodesk VRED Professional 2026.1 for business and public organization accounts. The material library remains accessible via its web interface, with AxF files compatible with most leading rendering software.
This initiative aligns with Covestro’s “The Material Effect” concept at K 2025 in Düsseldorf, where innovations in automotive, sustainable materials, electronics, healthcare, and sports & leisure will be showcased at stand A75, hall 6.
