Manohar Lal To Attend G20 Energy Meet In South Africa

Union Minister of Power, Shri Manohar Lal, will represent India at the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting (ETMM) to be held in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, from 7 to 10 October 2025. The meeting, hosted under South Africa’s G20 Presidency, will bring together energy ministers from the world’s leading economies to discuss strategies shaping the global energy future.
During the summit, the Minister will participate in sessions on “Energy Security, Clean Cooking, Affordable and Reliable Access” and “Sustainable Industrial Development.” These sessions aim to strengthen international collaboration towards ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy — essential for economic development and the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Shri Manohar Lal is expected to highlight India’s rapid progress in its renewable energy transition under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India has achieved a major milestone by generating 50 per cent of its total installed power capacity from renewable sources, well ahead of international targets. This demonstrates the nation’s strong commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient energy ecosystem while maintaining inclusive and sustainable growth.
The Minister will also share India’s best practices and policy experiences in advancing energy access, affordability, and security, particularly for rural and developing communities. He is expected to underscore that energy transitions and climate change remain among the world’s most critical challenges — disproportionately affecting developing nations that face resource and capacity constraints.
Shri Manohar Lal will reaffirm India’s commitment to collective global efforts that enable a just, affordable, and inclusive energy transition, in alignment with the G20’s overarching vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
The Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) and Ministerial Meeting (ETMM) will be held in person at The Capital Hotel, Zimbali, Durban. The event will serve as a key platform for advancing the G20 agenda on clean, secure, and equitable global energy systems.
