In a major boost to India’s digital infrastructure, Google will establish a 1-GW hyperscale data centre and Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project, valued at Rs 100 billion, is expected to significantly contribute to the state’s economy and create more than 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, highlighted that this landmark investment by Google will help position Andhra Pradesh as a prominent digital hub under the “Swarandhra Pradesh” vision. The project, part of Google’s global $15 billion expansion plan for 2026–2030, will develop advanced data storage, processing, and AI infrastructure to support India’s growing digital and technology ecosystem.

The Visakhapatnam data centre will be equipped with world-class infrastructure for power, cooling, and connectivity to ensure efficiency and sustainability. It will serve as a key facility supporting India’s ambitions in AI development, cloud computing, and data-driven innovation.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Google was signed in the presence of senior Union and state officials. The initiative marks a milestone in attracting global technology investments and aligns with the nation’s broader vision of making India a global digital powerhouse.
