Covestro Wins Good Design Award for Circular Design Innovation
2025-10-22

Covestro, a global leader in advanced polymer materials, has received the prestigious Good Design Award for transforming recycled engineering plastics into premium design materials through its pioneering Colour, Material and Finish (CMF) solutions. The award recognises Covestro’s innovative approach to making sustainability a key design differentiator.
Developed in collaboration with the Colour & Imaging Institute at Tsinghua University, the project titled “Transforming Sustainable Materials into Desirable Designs” demonstrates how recycled materials from end-of-life products can be revived into high-performance, aesthetically appealing applications.
“This recognition reflects Covestro’s commitment to uniting sustainability and premium design,” said Mathieu Jung, Head of Global Colour and Design, Engineering Plastics Business Entity, Covestro. “Recycled plastics can create distinctive, desirable products beyond traditional uses.”
The award-winning project features five nature-inspired CMF themes—Earth, Water, Stone, Gem, and Black & White—developed through extensive research and consumer insight. By applying these strategies to recycled polycarbonate, Covestro has shown how circularity and high-end design can co-exist.
These CMF solutions are already being adopted in sectors such as luggage and premium furniture, underlining their commercial viability. Covestro’s broader Design for Circularity initiative promotes mono-material and modular designs to improve recyclability and accelerate circular innovation.
Covestro aims to achieve climate neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035, with Scope 3 neutrality targeted by 2050. In FY2024, the company reported sales of EUR 14.2 billion across 46 production sites worldwide.
