Amit Shah Launches Six-Laning Of Ahmedabad–Maliya Road

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has laid the foundation stone for the six-laning of the Ahmedabad–Maliya Road section from Shantipura Crossroads to Khoraj GIDC in Sanand, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Rapid industrial growth in Sanand and neighbouring areas has driven average daily traffic on this Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC) stretch to around 43,014 vehicles, making the upgrade from four to six lanes essential to relieve congestion.

The project, estimated at Rs 8.05 billion, will widen a 28.8-kilometre section into a six-lane highway. Plans include service roads on both sides over 22.731 kilometres, widening of 13 minor bridges, a six-lane elevated flyover, and a three-lane right-turn flyover. Five new underpasses will be built at Ullaria, Telav (two locations), Sanand GIDC Gate, and Khoraj GIDC, alongside the construction or upgrade of 172 culverts on connecting roads.

Once complete, the corridor will benefit industrial hubs such as Sanand and Viramgam and improve long-distance connectivity towards Surendranagar, Shankheshwar, Radhanpur, and Patan. The expansion is expected to enhance safety, cut congestion, and save fuel and travel time for commuters. Following the ceremony, Amit Shah and Bhupendra Patel met Sanand residents, offered New Year greetings, and received bouquets. The event was attended by MLA Kanubhai Patel, District Collector Sujeet Kumar, District Development Officer Videh Khare, and other officials and dignitaries.
