BorgWarner Expands AWD Supply Partnership with Chery
2025-11-07
BorgWarner has announced multiple new contracts with Chery to deliver its latest All-Wheel Drive (AWD) technologies, including the torque-on-demand transfer case with mechanical lock (Mlock TOD) and its sixth-generation Cross Wheel Drive (Gen VI XWD) system. Mass production is set to begin in 2027, marking a significant expansion of the long-standing collaboration between the two companies.
“This collaboration leverages BorgWarner’s broad product portfolio and technical expertise to support Chery’s growth in China and global markets,” said Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President & General Manager, Drivetrain and Morse Systems.
Under the new agreements, BorgWarner will supply its Mlock TOD transfer case for Chery’s pickup vehicles. Equipped with the company’s HY-VO driveline chain, the system enhances efficiency at high speeds. It supports 2H and AUTO modes to optimize fuel economy on paved roads compared to full-time 4WD systems, while mechanical lock modes (4H Lock and 4L Lock) provide superior off-road performance, climbing ability, and recovery capability.
BorgWarner will also supply its next-generation Gen VI XWD system for Chery’s SUV lineup. The new XWD incorporates a Gen VI coupling and Gen VI electronic limited-slip differential, featuring a patented modular piston pump, brushless DC motor, and highly integrated controller. This design reduces weight, cost, and system complexity while delivering higher efficiency, precise limited-slip control, and improved traction, stability, and handling.
