Welspun Enterprises Wins 910 MLD Panjrapur WTP Contract

Welspun Enterprises (WEL), the infrastructure and energy arm of Welspun World, has secured a major contract from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to design, build and operate a 910 million litres per day (MLD) Water Treatment Plant (WTP) at Panjrapur, Maharashtra.

Valued at approximately Rs 31.45 billion, the project encompasses end-to-end civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works, including the construction of a treated water sump and pumping station. Of the total value, nearly Rs 11.56 billion is allocated to Operations & Maintenance (O&M), with an additional provisional sum of about Rs 290 million. The design-build phase will be completed within 48 months, followed by 15 years of O&M by WEL.

WEL has partnered with Veolia, a global leader in water management, as the technology provider, bringing advanced treatment systems and innovative solutions to ensure high-quality water output and long-term sustainability.

As of June 30, 2025, WEL’s standalone order book stood at around Rs 119.62 illion. With this award (net of Q2 FY26 execution), the order book increases to approximately Rs 146.27 billion, comprising Rs 113.51 billion from the Water Vertical (including Rs 53.93 billion from O&M & asset replacement), Rs 18.95 billion from the Tunnel segment, and Rs 13.81 billion from the Transportation Vertical (excluding the road project for which WEL is L1). On a consolidated basis, the order book now stands at nearly Rs 163.30 billion.

WEL has strengthened its footprint in India’s water sector through several marquee projects, including the 418 MLD Wastewater Treatment Facility at Dharavi; the 2000 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Bhandup; the Rural Water Supply Project under Jal Jeevan Mission in Uttar Pradesh; and Mumbai’s Tertiary Treated Water Conveyance Tunnel. Its subsidiary, Welspun Michigan Engineers Limited, continues to expand capabilities in urban water infrastructure and tunnelling.

Commenting on the achievement, BK Goenka, Chairman, Welspun World, said, “The Panjrapur WTP project is another significant milestone in our journey to becoming a leading player in the water sector. Upon completion of this project and the 2000 MLD Bhandup WTP, we will be treating nearly 70% of Mumbai’s freshwater requirement—an achievement aligned with our vision of ‘Har Ghar se Har Dil Tak Welspun’.” He added that ongoing projects such as the Dharavi Wastewater Facility and other water and tunnelling initiatives continue to promote circularity, sustainability and responsible growth.

Sandeep Garg, Managing Director, Welspun Enterprises, said, “We are honoured to be selected by BMC for this critical project. With Mumbai’s growing water demand, the Panjrapur WTP will play a vital role in strengthening urban water infrastructure. The water sector remains a strategic priority for us, and this order strongly aligns with our growth strategy. Our focus on innovation and efficiency will help deliver a world-class facility with a minimal footprint—a crucial factor in a land-constrained city like Mumbai.”
