Wonderla Unveils Rs 6.11 Billion Chennai Park on 1 December

The announcement was made at a press conference attended by Arun K. Chittilappilly (Executive Chairman and Managing Director), Dheeran Choudhary (COO), Ajikrishnan A G (VP–Engineering) and Vyshakh Ravindran (Park Head, Chennai).

Wonderla Chennai features 43 world-class rides across thrill, family, children’s and water categories, and can accommodate up to 6,500 visitors per day. Ticket prices begin at Rs 1,489, with a 10 per cent discount for online bookings and a 20 per cent concession for college students with valid ID. Curated seasonal and group offers are also available.

Arun K Chittilappilly said the project marks the fulfilment of a decade-long vision made possible through the support of the Government of Tamil Nadu. He stated that Wonderla Chennai aims to be India’s most advanced and immersive amusement park—one that reflects Tamil Nadu’s creativity, culture and warmth through temple-inspired architecture and authentic local experiences. He added that the launch expands Wonderla’s presence across South India and aligns with Tamil Nadu’s progressive tourism agenda.

COO Dheeran Choudhary emphasised that the park continues Wonderla’s legacy of safety, innovation and operational excellence. Each aspect—from ride operations and hygiene protocols to guest services and crowd management—has been designed for a seamless visitor experience. He noted that Wonderla Chennai aims to become a destination for both entertainment and celebration, hosting festivals, events and family gatherings with accessible pricing and year-round offerings.

Signature Rides Designed for Chennai

Tanjora – India’s first and largest B&M Inverted Coaster: A Swiss-engineered attraction featuring multiple inversions, zero-G rolls and a floorless design.

Spin Mill – India’s tallest spinning thrill ride: A 50-metre structure delivering loops, multi-axis motion and 4.5G forces.

Sky Rail: A 540-metre elevated monorail rising 12 metres above the park, offering panoramic views from Viking-inspired golden gondolas.

Cultural Design Meets Modern Engineering

Located in Illalur village, the park’s design transitions visitors from stone-carved heritage avenues to futuristic ride zones. The layout is climate-responsive, featuring shaded spaces, natural ventilation and indigenous landscaping. Locally sourced stone and granite reflect Tamil Nadu’s architectural legacy.

Beyond Rides: Dining, Retail and Events

The park offers eight themed dining venues with 1,384 seats, showcasing Tamil Nadu’s culinary richness—from Dindigul biryani and Chettinad chicken to Chennai-style seafood—alongside international dishes. A “Make-Ready-Discard” food policy ensures that all meals are freshly prepared each day.

Retail offerings extend beyond souvenirs, featuring Tamil cinema-inspired merchandise and locally crafted Thanjavur and Marapachi dolls. Additional facilities include spacious changing rooms, baby-care zones, barrier-free pathways, first-aid stations and a multipurpose conference hall for 1,500 guests. A dedicated 8,500 sq ft open-air venue supports corporate events and celebrations.

Economic and Environmental Impact

Wonderla Chennai is expected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, supporting local livelihoods and boosting tourism. The project was facilitated by the Government of Tamil Nadu’s Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion Bureau.

A planned 1,000 kW solar installation (Phase 2)

32,000 sq m of green cover with over 1,000 indigenous trees

Water and ride systems compliant with EN 13814, IS 3328 and IS 10500 standards

With its entry into Tamil Nadu, Wonderla strengthens its position as a leader in India’s amusement and leisure industry, expanding its South Indian footprint and contributing to the state’s rapidly growing tourism and entertainment landscape.
