Greaves Cotton Engines Power Ligier’s New Euro V+ Microcars
Greaves Cotton Limited, the 165-year-old engineering company known for its future-ready mobility solutions, has partnered with Ligier Group, one of Europe’s most prominent manufacturers of light and heavy quadricycles. Under this collaboration, Greaves has developed Euro V+ certified 499cc REVO D+ diesel engines that now power Ligier’s latest models—the Ligier JS50 and Ligier Myli—strengthening India’s position as a trusted global provider of advanced, regulatory-compliant automotive technologies.
Designed and manufactured at Greaves’ state-of-the-art facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the engines are being integrated into Ligier vehicles sold across France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, Estonia and the Czech Republic.
The 499cc REVO D+ single-cylinder, four-stroke diesel engine features electronic fuel injection, meets Euro V+ standards and is engineered for the L6e light quadricycle category. Delivering 6.0 kW of power at 3000 rpm and 26 Nm of torque between 1800–2200 rpm, the compact engine provides excellent fuel efficiency, advanced NVH performance, reduced friction and reliable performance for microcars, earning strong customer acceptance across Europe.
Euro V+ compliance was achieved through stringent validation processes, including endurance testing, cold-weather trials, lifecycle reliability assessments and emissions testing aligned with international regulatory norms. These processes highlight Greaves Cotton’s capability to meet the demanding environmental, quality and performance benchmarks of advanced global markets.
The engines’ smooth adoption across Europe—despite diverse climatic conditions and varied customer expectations—demonstrates Greaves’ ability to engineer products that deliver dependable performance in challenging geographies. Younger drivers benefit from responsive acceleration, while older users appreciate refined NVH characteristics.
Greaves has further advanced its offering by developing an integrated vehicle control ecosystem, enhancing its evolution from a powertrain manufacturer to a comprehensive mobility solutions provider for global OEMs. This shift underscores the company’s growing role as a solutions-driven engineering partner for international automotive brands.
Mr Parag Satpute, Managing Director and Group CEO of Greaves Cotton Limited, said the partnership with Ligier represents a proud milestone for the company. He noted that a Made-in-India powertrain is now driving European mobility solutions, reflecting Greaves’ engineering depth, customer-centric approach and commitment to global quality standards. He added that Greaves will continue strengthening its solutions-driven approach to meet the highest global requirements for performance, efficiency and sustainability.
