Mormugao Port Clears Rs 250 Million Yacht Marina Project

Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) has approved the development of a yacht marina on an 8,000 sqm waterfront plot next to its cruise terminal, awarding the project to Marintek Pvt Ltd through a tender process. Marintek will invest Rs 250 million to construct a floating marina designed for small and medium-sized boats.

MPA chairman N Vinodkumar said this is the port’s first marina initiative, with the entire 8,000 sqm stretch allotted for development under the tender. He added that the port will only collect lease rentals and will not invest in the project. The marina will function as a yacht parking facility with related services, located directly in front of the upcoming international cruise terminal, which is expected to become operational next season.

The announcement came alongside the arrival of the first feeder container vessel, MV SCI Mumbai, at berth No. 10, signalling the revival of full-scale container shipping at Mormugao after seven years. Vinodkumar said vessel-related charges for container feeder services have been waived for the first six months to encourage use of the facility, urging both pharma and non-pharma industries to support the service so shipping lines gain confidence.

Delta Ports Mormugao Terminal Pvt Ltd, which operates berth No. 10, is building warehouses and offering incentives to boost container traffic. Delta Ports vice-president Raghoba Kotkar said more cargo is expected, with additional shipping lines currently in discussions. He added that the operator is working to resolve pending issues and aims to establish a container hub at the port in the coming years.
