DPA Kandla Sets New Record With 81,024-Tonne Coal Discharge

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla has achieved a new milestone by discharging 81,024 tonnes of coal within just 24 hours from the vessel M V MARATHOS at Cargo Berth No. 7 — the highest single-day coal discharge recorded at one of India’s busiest ports.

The announcement follows another major feat earlier in the month. On 17 November, DPA Kandla handled 40 ships in a single day, surpassing its previous record of 38 ships set in December 2023. The back-to-back achievements highlight the port’s rising efficiency and its growing capacity to manage large volumes seamlessly.

“Another record at DPA Kandla! DPA, Kandla has achieved a record coal discharge of 81,024 tonnes in just 24 hours at Cargo Berth No. 7 with M.V. MARATHOS. A benchmark of unmatched speed, precision and teamwork,” the port authority said on X, calling the milestone a testament to its operational excellence and maritime leadership.

DPA acknowledged the contribution of several execution partners in completing the operation. These included Shree Ashapura Stevedores of the Ashapura Shipping Group, Seascape Shipping Agency India Pvt Ltd as the vessel agent, Shri Balaji Infraport of the Ashapura Shipping Group as the customs house agent, and Balaji Malts Private Limited as the importer. Their coordinated efforts ensured smooth handling within a narrow timeframe.

The earlier achievement of handling 40 ships in 24 hours was also made possible through tight coordination between marine, traffic and operational teams. Officials said the accomplishment demonstrated DPA Kandla’s capability to manage heavy vessel traffic without delays, supported by careful planning and constant monitoring to avoid congestion.

On this accomplishment, Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, employees, port users, trade unions and shramiks for their wholehearted cooperation. He also praised the efforts of the Traffic Manager, Deputy Conservator, operational teams and DPA pilots for their dedication, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said on X.
