Modi Marks 550 Years of Partagali Math in Goa
2025-12-01
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 550th-year celebration of the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Goa, describing the occasion as a moment of deep spiritual calm. He noted that the Math, despite centuries of change, has remained a guiding institution rooted in tradition while adapting to the times. He highlighted its long-standing role in linking sadhana with service and in providing stability, values, and continuity to society.
Marking the anniversary, the Prime Minister unveiled a 77-ft bronze statue of Lord Ram and inaugurated a Ramayana Theme Park on the premises. He said the new facilities, including a museum and modern 3D theatre, would become lasting centres of learning and inspiration for future generations. He also acknowledged the nationwide Ram Naam Jap Yajna and the 550-day Ram Rath Yatra, calling them symbols of collective devotion.
The Prime Minister released commemorative coins and postage stamps dedicated to the occasion and paid tribute to the Math’s Guru tradition rooted in Dvaita Vedanta, tracing its origins to Jagadguru Madhvacharya. He also acknowledged the Math’s founder, Shrimad Narayan Tirth Swamiji, and the historical links between Udupi, Partagali, and Varanasi.
Highlighting the Math’s historic contribution, he recalled how it supported communities during difficult periods, helped establish temples and shelters, and promoted education, hostels, and welfare activities. He noted that institutions such as the Partagali Math played a crucial role in preserving Goa’s cultural identity through challenging phases.
Referring to India’s wider cultural revival, he pointed to the redevelopment of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the Mahakal Mahalok expansion, and the renewed focus on heritage circuits such as Ramayana and Krishna. He said these developments reflect a national awakening that strengthens cultural roots.
The Prime Minister presented nine appeals—centred on water conservation, tree planting, cleanliness, Swadeshi, domestic tourism, natural farming, healthy lifestyles, yoga and sports, and support for the poor—suggesting that the Math could help turn these into collective social commitments.
He noted Goa’s strong economic performance, high per-capita income, and rising prominence in tourism, education, and health. He said improved highways, airports, and rail connectivity were supporting the state’s growth and contributing to India’s wider development goals for 2047.
Concluding, he said the spiritual heritage of Goa and the contribution of the Partagali Math continue to inspire unity, service, and national development. Dignitaries including the Governor of Goa, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, and Union Minister Shripad Naik attended the ceremony.
