Centre, Rajasthan And MP Advance Modified Chambal Link Plan

To optimise the use of water resources within the Chambal River system, and following discussions with the Governments of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, a proposal for the Modified Parbati–Kalisindh–Chambal (MPKC) link has been developed. The proposal combines components suggested by Madhya Pradesh in the Kuno, Parbati and Kalisindh sub-basins with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project elements proposed by Rajasthan.

An MoU was signed on 28 January 2024, followed by a Memorandum of Agreement on 5 December 2024, between Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and the Union Government to facilitate implementation of the MPKC link.

The Detailed Project Reports for the Rajasthan components have been completed and submitted to the Central Water Commission under the Ministry of Jal Shakti for techno-economic appraisal.

At present, no proposal is under consideration to designate the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project as a National Project. The inclusion and funding of any scheme — including those related to river interlinking — depend on existing policy frameworks, detailed appraisal, approvals of competent authorities and the availability of funds.

The information was provided by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Shri Raj Bhushan Choudhary, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
