Odisha Targets Role as MSME Hub for Eastern India
2025-12-03
Odisha has set its sights on becoming the MSME gateway of eastern India, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said at the Odisha Industrial Conclave 2025, organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB). Calling the state a land of possibilities, he noted that Odisha has emerged as a leading destination for micro, small and medium enterprises.
He said that reforms such as the Go-Swift single-window system now allow project approvals within a day. Odisha has also invested 6.1 per cent of its GDP in infrastructure development, which is expected to further accelerate industrial and MSME growth.
Majhi emphasised the success of the Subhadra Yojana, describing it as an initiative that promotes financial independence among rural women through small enterprises. The programme has created 1.7 million ‘Lakhpati Didis’, positioning Odisha as a top performer. Citing global trends where small businesses account for 90 per cent of enterprises and 50 per cent of jobs, he said small industries enrich the economy as much as they contribute to it.
Reaffirming the vision of ‘Viksit Odisha O Viksit Bharat’, he expressed confidence that the state would firmly establish itself as the MSME gateway of the region. He also lauded LUB for supporting more than 980 industrial units and for its plan to open an office in Bhubaneswar to strengthen industry–government engagement across districts.
MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik said the government was working to boost local products, artisans and small businesses. He noted that an Ekta Mall was being set up at Gandamunda with an investment of Rs 1870 million, alongside MSME parks planned in all 30 districts, with 14 nearing completion.
The conclave drew more than 1,000 delegates and featured panel sessions, B2B engagements and awareness programmes for entrepreneurs across multiple sectors.
