CIDCO Speeds Up Work on Navi Mumbai International Educity
CIDCO has accelerated land development and initiated the e-tendering process for its proposed International Educity at Kundevahal in Panvel, a 100-hectare project aimed at bringing world-class foreign university campuses to Navi Mumbai. The Educity forms a key part of CIDCO’s Centre of Excellence initiative and is planned as an integrated hub combining global-standard education, healthcare, sports and skilling facilities.
CIDCO Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal described the Educity as a “ground-breaking initiative” that will enable Indian students to learn from leading international universities while fostering a knowledge-driven, multicultural academic environment. He added that the project would be a landmark cluster with more than 10 global institutions — the first of its kind in India.
On 14 June, CIDCO and the Government of Maharashtra signed MoUs and Letters of Intent with five international institutions: the University of York, University of Aberdeen, University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology and the Istituto Europeo di Design. These agreements pave the way for the establishment of their campuses within the Educity.
Occupying a strategically located 100-hectare site just 3–4 km from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, the Educity will be well connected to the Multi-modal Corridor, the Samruddhi Highway, the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, Aero-City, NAINA and the Kharghar Corporate Park. CIDCO is currently levelling the land in four parcels for phased allotment, with work underway on the first two parcels covering 50 hectares. The development also includes 45-metre and 30-metre approach roads, providing direct access from NH 348 (NH-4B) via JNPT Road.
To further enhance connectivity, CIDCO is planning Metro Line M-24, which will link the Navi Mumbai International Airport with Panvel Railway Terminus and extend to NAINA. The line will connect both the proposed Aerocity and Educity, strengthening mass-transit access to the area.
