Most Ongoing National Highway Projects to Be Completed by FY27: Gadkari
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced that the majority of ongoing national highway projects across India are on track for completion by FY 2026–27. He noted that the country’s highway sector is witnessing unprecedented expansion, supported by strong execution momentum and sustained investment in large-scale connectivity programmes.
Gadkari highlighted that multiple flagship corridors—including access-controlled expressways, economic corridors and greenfield alignments—are progressing at an accelerated pace. These projects are expected to significantly improve travel efficiency, reduce logistics costs and strengthen regional economic integration.
The Minister also emphasised that the government’s focus remains on building high-quality, durable and future-ready highway infrastructure. Several projects delayed due to land acquisition challenges, cost escalations or environmental clearances have now been streamlined with revised timelines and enhanced coordination between central and state agencies.
He reiterated that the implementation of key national programmes such as Bharatmala Pariyojana, Multimodal Logistics Parks, and border and coastal connectivity projects will reshape India’s transport landscape over the next few years. Faster construction technologies, improved contracting frameworks, and increased private participation are expected to further support timely delivery.
According to the Minister, the highway sector will continue to be one of India’s primary growth drivers, with the forthcoming years focused on completing under-construction works, expanding green corridors and boosting road safety measures across the national network.
