LG Clears Land Allotment for Rithala–Kundli Metro Corridor
2025-12-19
A major bottleneck in the implementation of the Rithala–Narela–Kundli Metro corridor under Phase IV has been resolved, with Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena approving the allotment of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) land to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for construction of a key viaduct.
The approval, which had been pending for several years, pertains to land required for building the viaduct stretch between Rithala and Rohini Sector 25. Officials said the decision will significantly accelerate work on the long-awaited corridor, which is critical for improving connectivity in north-west Delhi and adjoining regions.
As per the approval, DJB will permanently allot 50 square metres of land located at the sewage treatment plant (STP) in Rithala to DMRC through a 99-year lease. In addition, 1,286 square metres of land will be provided to DMRC on a temporary basis for four years to facilitate construction activities.
In return, DMRC will pay a total consideration of Rs 7.5 million to the Delhi Jal Board. This includes Rs 1.2 million for the permanent allotment of 50 square metres and Rs 6.3 million for the temporary use of 1,286 square metres for the construction period. Officials clarified that the land will be used strictly for the purpose for which it has been allotted.
The clearance is expected to fast-track development of the Rithala–Bawana–Narela–Kundli Metro corridor and provide a major boost to the planned growth of Narela as a residential hub, education centre and sports destination.
The Rithala–Kundli Metro corridor aims to enhance connectivity between Delhi and Haryana, reduce traffic congestion and pollution, and improve public transport access in areas such as Rohini, Bawana and Narela. The corridor will feature 21 elevated stations and integrate with the existing Red Line, enabling smoother travel across the National Capital Region.
