Vedanta Expands Aluminium Refinery Capacity to 5 MTPA
The Lanjigarh refinery in Kalahandi has increased its capacity from 2 million tonnes per annum to 5 million tonnes per annum, the refinery's owner, Vedanta Aluminium announced on Wednesday.
The company had first undertaken this expansion in 2020. The current capability will result in India becoming globally the third largest producer of refined aluminium with a total refining capacity of nearly 13 MTPA.
This achievement represents a huge leap forward for Vedanta as it marks a 68 per cent increase from the previous year, as well as producing 254 KT of alumina in November which is its “highest-ever” monthly production.
