G Kishan Reddy Announces Coal Production of Nearly One Billion

For the first time ever, Indian coal production has reached nearly a billion tonnes this year, which would make India the global second largest producer and consumer of coal announced Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy.

He communicated this during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha. He also made mention of the effort by the government to enact several reforms and ensure proper coal production and supply across all sectors. He stated that with the amount of coal present, India now has the 5th largest coal reserves globally as well as sufficient reserves for another 7 years.

He informed the House of the Coal Gasification Mission which is set to achieve 100 million tonnes by 2030 and has also auctioned underground coal gasification blocks for the first time in the country.
