Volvo Introduces ECR355 Short-Tailswing Excavator

Volvo Construction Equipment has launched the ECR355, a new 35-tonne short-tailswing excavator offering improved fuel efficiency, higher lift capacity and increased cab space. The machine joins Volvo’s next-generation excavator range, which began rolling out in 2024 as part of the company’s largest redesign in two decades.

Available for order in North America, the ECR355 is powered by a 253 hp diesel engine and features a tailswing radius of just 6 feet 8 inches, making it well suited for confined job sites. Volvo reports a seven per cent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to previous-generation models, achieved through its electro-hydraulic control system and redesigned main control valve. The system combines smart cooling and engine speed regulation to deliver higher torque at lower rpm, while also providing smooth and precise control of the boom, arm and bucket.

The ECR355 also delivers a seven per cent increase in lift capacity, reaching 26,631 pounds, along with four per cent more tractive force compared to other short-tailswing excavators in its class.
