Jewar Airport Set For January 2026 Inauguration

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the Noida International Airport at Jewar will be inaugurated in January 2026, marking a major milestone in the state’s aviation expansion. The announcement was made on the concluding day of the Winter Session of the state legislature. Once operational, the facility will become Uttar Pradesh’s fifth international airport and a key aviation hub for northern India.

Addressing the House, the chief minister highlighted the rapid expansion of aviation infrastructure in the state since 2017. He noted that prior to this period, Uttar Pradesh had only two fully functional airports, with two operating on a limited basis. At present, 16 airports are functional across the state. Of these, four have international status, with the Noida International Airport set to be added as the fifth.

The Noida International Airport is being developed as a greenfield project in Jewar, located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district. According to the chief minister, the airport will be India’s largest in terms of area and passenger-handling capacity once fully developed. The project is being implemented under a public-private partnership model, aimed at ensuring efficient construction, long-term operational sustainability and global service standards.

The state government also underscored parallel investments in expressways, rail infrastructure and urban transport systems. Uttar Pradesh now accounts for a significant share of India’s expressway network, while metro rail services have expanded across major cities and inter-state road connectivity has improved. The Jewar airport is expected to play a critical role in boosting logistics, tourism and investment flows across western Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region.

The first phase of the airport was initially scheduled to commence operations in September 2024 but faced multiple delays due to construction and regulatory challenges. The revised inauguration timeline of January 2026 reflects the government’s focus on completing essential infrastructure and ensuring full operational readiness before the start of commercial services.
