LDA to Provide 12.5 Ha Land for Lucknow Metro East–West
2026-01-08
The proposed East–West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro has gained fresh momentum, with the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) deciding to provide land for key construction facilities to speed up execution of the project. The decision was taken during a meeting between LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar and metro officials.
To facilitate construction, the LDA will provide around 12.5 hectares of land for setting up a temporary casting yard. Officials said about six hectares have been identified in Sector-K of the Basant Kunj scheme, while nearly 6.5 hectares comprise land currently used as temporary parking under the Prabandhnagar Yojana during the inauguration of the Rashtra Prerna Sthal. Subject to mutual consent, the land will be handed over to the metro authorities for project-related works.
In addition, around 18 hectares of land in the southern part of Sector-A of the Basant Kunj scheme has been earmarked for the construction of a permanent metro depot. This parcel of land presently houses the Dubagga fish market. To facilitate the relocation, an equivalent area has been proposed in the Varun Vihar scheme along the Agra Expressway, where the fish market will be shifted.
Metro officials have also sought land at strategic locations such as Chowk, Charbagh, and Gautam Budh Marg for stations and allied facilities. The LDA vice-chairman directed officials to conduct site surveys at the earliest and issue no-objection certificates (NOCs) for land transfer. He also instructed that records related to land owned by the municipal corporation be made available promptly to avoid delays.
Officials said the LDA’s decision to allocate land for the casting yard and depot would significantly accelerate work on the East–West Corridor. The project is a key component of Lucknow’s urban transport expansion and is expected to improve east–west connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen the city’s overall public transport infrastructure once completed.
