Rs 70.72 Mn Rural Bridge to Link Kaimur, Rohtas Districts

A new rural bridge worth Rs 70.72 million is set to come up over the Durgavati River in Bihar’s Kaimur district, a project expected to substantially improve connectivity with the neighbouring Rohtas district. The bridge will be built at Sabaragarh in Rampur block under the state government’s Mukhyamantri Gramin Setu Yojana, a flagship scheme aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure and all-weather road links.

Once completed, the bridge will provide a direct and safer connection between the two districts, which are currently separated by the Durgavati River. At present, local residents depend on a temporary causeway constructed several years ago using district council funds. Villagers say the makeshift structure has deteriorated over time and poses serious safety concerns, particularly during the monsoon season when the river’s water level rises and crossings become difficult or entirely impossible.

The project is being implemented by the rural works department. Although construction was scheduled to begin on September 23, 2025, work is yet to commence. Officials have completed soil testing on both banks of the river, a mandatory step before construction, and have informed residents that physical work will begin once the test reports are received and formally approved.

Despite the delay, the announcement of the bridge has generated optimism among people in nearby villages, who believe it will significantly reduce travel time and improve access to markets, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions across district borders. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Bharat Bind, MLA, ahead of the last election.

While villagers have welcomed the project, many say they are keenly awaiting visible progress on the ground, hoping the long-promised bridge will soon move from plans to reality.
