ONGC Reports Significant Progress in Blowout Control at Well Mori#5

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has reported significant progress in blowout control operations at Well Mori#5, which is being operated by PEC contractor Deep Industries. The company said focused efforts are continuing in line with the approved blowout control plan, with key risk indicators showing marked improvement.

According to ONGC, the Crisis Management Team is advancing operations systematically, resulting in a substantial reduction in fire intensity, noise levels and ambient heat in the vicinity of the well. These improvements have enabled safer access to the site and supported the next phase of remedial operations.

To facilitate debris clearance, an approach road has been completed from the rear end of the wellsite. Necessary logistics have also been mobilised to allow for structured and safe removal of debris around the affected area. ONGC stated that these steps are critical to preparing the site for subsequent well control activities.

A water blanket has now been established at the wellsite to support ongoing debris removal near the wellhead. This measure is also intended to enable the next stage of operations, including capping of the wellhead, in accordance with the approved action plan. The water blanket plays a key role in suppressing residual heat and enhancing operational safety during close-proximity work.

In view of the steady progress achieved and the remote likelihood of escalation, the district administration has advised residents in surrounding areas to resume normal activities. ONGC noted that it continues to coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure community safety and effective communication.

The company reiterated that the safety of the community and protection of the environment remain its highest priorities. All activities at Well Mori#5 are being conducted in strict compliance with regulatory requirements and established industry best practices, with continuous monitoring in place until the situation is fully stabilised.
