Assam CM Inaugurates SJVN’s 70 MW Dhubri Solar Plant
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated SJVN’s 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project, marking a significant milestone for renewable energy development in the North Eastern Region.
The project, developed by SJVN Green Energy Ltd (SGEL), was launched in the presence of senior officials from the Government of Assam, SJVN and APDCL. During the event, SJVN officials expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy for their continued guidance and support in strengthening India’s renewable capacity.
The Dhubri project has been developed on 330 acres of land leased from Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) for a period of 28 years at Village Khudigaon Pt-I, Bilasipara Revenue Circle, Dhubri district. The project was awarded to SGEL by APDCL through tariff-based competitive bidding conducted in February 2023.
Built at a cost of Rs 3.87 billion, the solar facility is expected to generate 141.3 million units of electricity in its first year of operation. The plant has an estimated Capacity Utilisation Factor of 23 per cent and is projected to produce around 3.23 billion units over a 25-year period.
In addition to clean energy generation, the project is expected to prevent approximately 1,58,270 tonnes of carbon emissions during its operational life, while also creating employment opportunities for local communities across development and operational phases.
This is SJVN’s first operational solar project in Assam and its first large-scale renewable project in the North Eastern Region. The foundation stone for the project was laid virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 4 March 2024.
