Delhi Aerocity Station Set to Emerge as Major Metro Interchange Hub

The Delhi Aerocity metro station on the Airport Express Line is poised to become one of the most important interchange hubs in the Delhi Metro network, with new linkages planned to enhance regional and intra-city connectivity. According to officials, provisions have been made to integrate the station with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation’s (NCRTC) proposed Alwar corridor, significantly strengthening regional rail connectivity from the national capital.

In addition to the NCRTC interchange, the Aerocity station is being expanded to provide seamless connectivity with the Tughlakabad–Aerocity Golden Line corridor, which is currently under construction as part of Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro project. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said the enhanced interchange will allow passengers to transfer conveniently between multiple high-capacity rail systems, improving overall network efficiency.

DMRC has also received approval to extend the Golden Line corridor beyond Aerocity up to the Terminal 1 Indira Gandhi International Airport station. The approved extension will cover a length of 2.263 km and is expected to further strengthen airport connectivity for commuters travelling from different parts of the city. This extension will complement the existing Airport Express Line by offering additional route options and reducing dependency on a single corridor.

The proposed interchange with the NCRTC’s Alwar corridor will enable faster and more reliable regional travel between Delhi and key locations in Rajasthan, supporting daily commuters as well as long-distance travellers. Once operational, the integrated hub is expected to reduce travel time, ease congestion on road networks and promote greater use of public transport.

With multiple high-speed and conventional metro corridors converging at a single location, Delhi Aerocity is set to evolve into a strategic multimodal transit hub. The development aligns with DMRC’s broader objective of creating a well-integrated, passenger-friendly metro system that supports the growing mobility needs of the National Capital Region.
