Ahmedabad Airport Expands Airside Infrastructure

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has commissioned two new rapid exit taxiways, Romeo 3 (R3) and Romeo 5 (R5), strengthening its airside infrastructure and enhancing operational efficiency.

The newly developed taxiways allow aircraft to vacate the runway more quickly, significantly reducing runway occupancy time. Airport authorities said the upgrade will support smoother aircraft movement, improve operational performance, and contribute to better on-time flight operations.

In November last year, the airport operator also commissioned a new parallel taxiway for Code C aircraft, aimed at streamlining airside operations and expanding flight-handling capacity. The parallel taxiway enables aircraft to access the runway directly, reducing the need for extended taxiing via existing routes.

Aviation experts noted that the infrastructure upgrades have helped shorten aircraft turnaround time, improve fuel efficiency, and optimise ground traffic flow, particularly during peak demand periods. The improvements are expected to strengthen the airport’s ability to handle growing traffic volumes while maintaining operational reliability.
