Naidu Pushes Rs 1.40 Trillion National Highway Works in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to expedite the completion of ongoing National Highway projects in the state involving investments of Rs 1.40 trillion. He also set a 2027 deadline for the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor, which links the region to the greenfield capital city of Amaravati.

The Chief Minister instructed departments to prioritise road projects aimed at substantially reducing freight transportation costs and strengthening logistics efficiency. He emphasised seamless National Highway connectivity to ports at Mulapeta, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam and Krishnapatnam, along with improved hinterland linkages to enable cargo movement from neighbouring states.

Naidu also sought detailed project reports for the proposed Kharagpur–Amaravati Greenfield Expressway and directed officials to plan road connectivity from Nagpur in Maharashtra to Machilipatnam via Vijayawada. Additionally, the Roads and Buildings Department has been asked to prepare proposals for expanding the existing road network.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that an action plan is in place to construct 6,054 km of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 25 billion. The programme includes the adoption of modern construction technologies such as Danish fibre roads, waste plastic bitumen and nano-concrete developed by IIT Tirupati.
