Covestro India Donates Rs 4.3 Mn for Cuddalore Sustainability
2026-02-09
Covestro (India) has handed over Rs 4.3 million to the Cuddalore District Administration to support two community development initiatives focused on water conservation and solid waste management. The contribution aims to address key environmental and sanitation challenges in the district while strengthening local infrastructure.
The handover took place at the District Collector’s Office on February 4, 2026, where Jeganathan Kanmani, Site Head, Covestro (India) Cuddalore, presented a demand draft to the District Collector. The funding includes Rs 2.3 million for the desilting of irrigation tanks across three panchayats and Rs 2 million for the procurement of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) to strengthen solid waste management operations in Cuddalore District.
Commenting on the initiative, Anand Srinivasan, Managing Director – Covestro (India) & Head of Polycarbonate – ISC, said: “At Covestro, we live by our purpose of making the world a brighter place. These water conservation and waste management initiatives in Cuddalore reflect our commitment to environmental stewardship and meaningful community engagement. We are proud to collaborate with local authorities to bring about positive change that will benefit hundreds of families and farmers in the region.”
The desilting project will cover irrigation tanks in the panchayats of Alambadi, Thondankurichi and Parur, benefiting nearly 800 hectares of agricultural land. By improving water storage capacity and supporting groundwater recharge, the initiative is expected to enhance irrigation efficiency and help mitigate the impacts of floods and droughts, addressing long-standing water security concerns for local farmers.
Jeganathan Kanmani, Site Head, Covestro (India) Cuddalore, said: “These projects directly address two critical needs identified in the Cuddalore community—water security and effective waste management. As a responsible corporate company, we have consistently focused on sustainable initiatives that create lasting impact. The desilting of irrigation tanks will help transform agricultural productivity in these villages, while the waste management vehicles will improve sanitation and quality of life for residents.”
The LCVs for solid waste management are expected to benefit around 500 households by improving waste collection efficiency, sanitation and environmental hygiene across various parts of the district. The initiative supports municipal efforts to promote cleaner surroundings and better public health outcomes.
This contribution builds on Covestro (India)’s ongoing community engagement in Cuddalore, which has included the construction of overhead water tanks, Anganwadi centres, school classrooms and multiple environmental initiatives such as lake desilting projects and regular cleanliness drives.
