Covestro India Funds Water, Waste Projects in Cuddalore

Covestro (India) has recently donated Rs 4.3 million to the Cuddalore District Administration to support two community development initiatives focused on water conservation and solid waste management.

The contribution was formally handed over at a meeting held at the District Collector’s Office on 4 February 2026 by Jeganathan Kanmani, Site Head, Covestro (India) Cuddalore. Of the total amount, Rs 2.3 million has been allocated for desilting irrigation tanks across the Alambadi, Thondankurichi and Parur panchayats, while Rs 2 million will be used to procure light commercial vehicles for solid waste transportation in the district.

Commenting on the initiative, Anand Srinivasan, Managing Director, Covestro (India) and Head of Polycarbonate – ISC, said the projects reflect the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, with a focus on creating long-term benefits for local residents and farmers.

The water conservation project is expected to rejuvenate irrigation tanks serving around 800 hectares of farmland. By improving water storage capacity and supporting groundwater recharge, the initiative aims to strengthen irrigation infrastructure while helping mitigate the impacts of floods and droughts in the region.

According to Jeganathan Kanmani, the initiatives address two pressing local needs—water security and effective waste management. He added that the desilting of irrigation tanks is expected to improve agricultural productivity, while the waste management vehicles will enhance sanitation standards and overall quality of life for residents.

The light commercial vehicles for solid waste management are expected to benefit over 500 households, improving waste collection efficiency and environmental hygiene across parts of Cuddalore District. The initiative supports ongoing efforts by local authorities to promote cleaner and more sustainable communities.

The latest contribution builds on Covestro (India)’s earlier community initiatives in Cuddalore, which have included the construction of overhead water tanks, Anganwadi facilities, school classrooms, and environmental sustainability projects such as lake desilting and clean-up drives.
