A technology-enabled logistics ecosystem is essential to strengthening infrastructure and enhancing supply chain efficiency under the PM Gati Shakti initiative, Shri Sagar Rameshrao Kadu, Director (Logistics), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, said at the Digital Commerce Dialogue 2026 held in New Delhi.

Organised by the Internet and Mobile Association of India, the conference brought together policymakers, industry leaders, investors and digital commerce stakeholders to explore how e-commerce can drive infrastructure integration, strengthen national supply chains and support India’s development vision.

Addressing a session on Gati Shakti, Sagar Rameshrao Kadu, Director (Logistics), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, said, “The government is focused on developing a tech-enabled, efficient logistics ecosystem. Under PM Gati Shakti, the emphasis is on strengthening infrastructure, improving road speed, enhancing multimodal connectivity, and increasing modal shift in the rail segment. These interventions are critical to reducing logistics costs and building a more efficient national supply chain. While Tier 1 cities have driven growth so far, the next phase will depend on improving connectivity and logistics support facilities in Tier 2, Tier 3 and rural markets.”

The discussions examined trends shaping India’s digital commerce sector, highlighting how businesses can leverage connected commerce to unlock a projected $300 billion market opportunity by 2030. Key sessions focused on policy alignment, strategic investment and innovation to accelerate growth and improve logistics efficiency under the Viksit Bharat vision. Infrastructure transformation remained central, with emphasis on retail logistics modernisation, multimodal integration across transport networks and technology-driven optimisation of first- and last-mile delivery.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of an industry report by Boston Consulting Group in the presence of representatives from BCG, DPIIT and IAMAI, outlining structural drivers shaping India’s connected commerce ecosystem.

Senior leaders from government, consulting and industry participated in the conference, which underscored digital commerce as a strategic enabler of infrastructure modernisation and logistics transformation, supporting the development of a resilient and globally competitive supply chain ecosystem.
