ABB to Invest Rs 6.25 Billion to Expand India Manufacturing

ABB recently announced plans to invest approximately Rs 6.25 billion ($75 million) in India during 2026 to expand its manufacturing footprint and research and development capabilities. The investment follows more than $35 million spent in 2025 and reflects the company’s continued focus on strengthening its ‘local-for-local’ strategy in the country.

The investment will support ABB’s Electrification, Motion and Automation businesses and expand manufacturing capacity for infrastructure sectors such as renewable energy, metro rail, data centres and industrial applications. Approximately 300 new skilled jobs in engineering, operations and research are expected to be created as part of the expansion.

In Bengaluru, ABB will invest $14 million at its Nelamangala campuses to enhance production capabilities and introduce new technology ranges, including advanced electrical protection and enclosure solutions. The facility will also expand converter manufacturing to support the growing sustainable mobility sector, including metro and high-speed rail systems.

At Peenya in Bengaluru, ABB is investing $21 million to expand manufacturing of low-voltage drives and specialised motors, including flameproof motors and smoke-venting motors. The investment will also strengthen digital capabilities through an innovation lab, remote monitoring systems and upgraded training infrastructure.

In Hyderabad, ABB is developing a new laboratory and office complex with a $12 million investment. The facility will include advanced research laboratories and engineering hubs to support electrification and automation technologies.

The company is also expanding production at its Nashik facility with a $22 million investment to manufacture indoor and outdoor circuit breakers and expand its Vacuum Interrupter factory. The project will support localisation of 33 kV gas insulated switchgear and the development of SF6-free technologies.

At Vadodara, ABB will invest $6 million to expand manufacturing of slow-speed synchronous generators and increase induction motor production to serve industries such as metals, oil and gas, cement and wind energy.

ABB has been operating in India for 76 years and employs more than 10,000 people across nearly 25 manufacturing and operational facilities, along with five major R&D centres. The company reported revenues of over $1.5 billion in India in 2025, accounting for around four per cent of ABB Group’s global revenue.
