GAIL And TruAlt Form Strategic Partnership To Scale Compressed Biogas

Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director Business Development at GAIL (India) Limited, noted that India currently imports 50 per cent of its natural gas requirement and that scaling up Compressed Biogas (CBG) would reduce foreign exchange outflows and strengthen energy security against global price and supply shocks. He indicated that CBG production could be locally sourced in villages and towns, addressing waste management while fuelling transport and empowering rural economies. The partnership was said to combine GAIL’s gas marketing expertise and pipeline network with TruAlt Bioenergy Limited’s feedstock access and operating experience to facilitate the establishment of multiple new CBG plants.

TruAlt Bioenergy Limited was identified as one of India’s largest biofuels companies and described as the country’s only dedicated bioenergy enterprise, combining agricultural linkages with large-scale industrial capabilities to deliver diversified and sustainable energy solutions. The company was noted to have been among the early producers of Compressed Biogas under the Government of India’s SATAT scheme launched in 2018 and to be the first biofuels company in India to attain Oil Marketing Company (OMC) status, enabling integrated participation across the energy value chain including fuel retailing. It was reported that TruAlt is also positioning itself among early movers in Sustainable Aviation Fuel and is exploring advanced biofuels and low-carbon energy solutions.

The company said it produces Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) and Liquid Fermented Organic Manure (LFOM) to support sustainable agriculture. It also reported capturing and utilising liquefied carbon dioxide for industrial applications and reaffirmed a commitment to a zero-waste energy ecosystem.
