Coal India Ramps Up Measures To Ensure Coal Supply

Coal India Limited (CIL) has intensified operational measures to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to all user segments amid geopolitical disruptions that have raised import concerns. CIL has directed its subsidiaries to prioritise evacuation and ramp up dispatches to thermal power stations, industrial consumers and domestic sectors. CIL management has coordinated with railways, ports and power utilities to streamline logistics and reduce bottlenecks. The steps aim to safeguard energy security and support continuous power generation across regions.

Operational directives include extended working hours at select mines, optimisation of transportation schedules and increased monitoring of stock levels at receiving stations. CIL has advised power producers to reconcile consumption forecasts with anticipated deliveries and to maintain adequate safety stocks. Enhanced communication protocols have been established between field units and headquarters to enable rapid response to constraints. These measures are intended to maintain stability in supply chains and to mitigate the risk of shortfalls during peak demand periods.

CIL officials have prioritised supply to regulated sectors, while continuing commercial sales to non-regulated customers. Performance monitoring mechanisms will track daily extraction, dispatch and arrival times to identify delays and corrective actions. Contingency plans include redeployment of rolling stock and temporary diversion of rakes to relieve congested corridors. Collaboration with ministries and state agencies is ongoing to align policy support and accelerate clearances for critical consignments.

The measures are expected to strengthen grid reliability and to reassure industrial consumers about availability of fuel for operations. Operational teams will continue to monitor market developments and to adjust dispatch priorities in response to evolving demand patterns and logistical constraints. CIL senior management has indicated readiness to deploy additional resources where necessary and to work with stakeholders to avoid any supply disruptions during seasonal peaks. Further operational reviews will refine prioritisation and logistics plans as conditions evolve further rapidly.
